Panel surge protector: shield your devices from surges
Lightning, power coming back after an outage, a large motor starting: surges wear out and fry your electronics. A panel surge protector shields them all, at the source — for a fraction of their value.
Where voltage spikes come from
We think of lightning, but most surges come from elsewhere: power restoring after an outage, a large motor starting (heat pump, pool pump), or fluctuations on the grid. Each spike, even a small one, wears your electronics a little more — until the day it fries.
What’s vulnerable
TVs, computers, smart-home gear, EV chargers, heat pumps, electronic appliances.
A panel surge protector
Installed at the panel, it protects the whole home at the source.
Point-of-use protection
A second layer for sensitive devices (home theatre, office).
Cheap insurance for your devices
A panel surge protector costs a fraction of a heat pump, a charger or a home-theatre system. It installs once, protects everything, and gets replaced after a major event. For a home full of electronics — and especially with a charger or heat pump — it’s one of the best protection-per-dollar moves there is.
Two-layer protection
Surge protector at the panel
We install it right at the panel: it absorbs spikes before they reach your circuits.
Targeted protection
We add point-of-use protection for the most sensitive devices.
Panel check
We use the visit to check the overall condition and the grounding.

What people ask us
Is a surge protector really worth it?+
Yes, especially in a home full of electronics, or with an EV charger or heat pump. Most surges don’t come from lightning but from the grid and large motors; a panel surge protector absorbs those spikes before they damage your devices.
Isn’t a power bar enough?+
It protects a single device, and often poorly. A protector installed at the panel protects the whole home at the source. The ideal is to combine both: the panel for everything, point-of-use protection for sensitive electronics.
Does it protect against lightning?+
It helps a lot against induced surges, which are very common during storms. No protection is absolute against a direct lightning strike, but a good surge protector greatly reduces the risk of damage.
Does it need to be replaced someday?+
Yes. A surge protector ‘wears out’ as it absorbs spikes, especially after a big event. Most have a status indicator; we check it during a service visit and replace it if needed.
How much does it cost?+
It’s an affordable add-on, especially compared to the devices it protects. At Groupe Quenneville, a regular service call is $150 plus $140/hr (1 hr minimum). We recommend the right protection — 514-503-1353.
